I’d like my art to have a deeper meaning than what is initially portrayed. I also wanted to incorporate my ethnic background into my work. Here I did a very rough sketch of an American Indian chief headdress. It was only worn by the Chief and he would be immediately recognized and given respect by other native people. I had a hard time giving this sketch a deeper meaning. I also wanted to incorporate my African American background to this piece, but I wasn’t sure how to do so effectively.
